Petron conducted a mangrove planting activity in Bgy. Aplaya, Hagonoy, Davao del Sur in celebration of Environment Month this June. This is only one among a number of activities lined up this month, strengthening our commitment to environmental awareness and conservation.
60 volunteers from our Davao Terminal, the Hagonoy Local Government, Hagonoy National High School, Philippine Coast Guard, and Mangrove Ecopark Fisherfolk Association (MEFA) came together to plant around 1,000 Avicennia sp propagules in the area. Our employee volunteers were accompanied by Davao Terminal Manager Nathan Asoque and representatives from Petron Foundation, Inc. (PFI).
PFI Project Officer Mr. Dino Pestano delivered a message to the participants on behalf of the Foundation during the program held before the actual planting. This was followed by Mr. Nathan Asoque receiving a Certificate of Recognition from the Local Government of Hagonoy on behalf of Davao Terminal for our sustained mangrove reforestation efforts in their community. Mr. Asoque also addressed the LGU and particitipants after receiving the certificate.
This event was conducted under Petron’s Puno ng Buhay Program, our nationwide reforestation program. To date, we have adopted around 55 hectares of mangrove areas for reforestation, a part of the company’s larger sustainability efforts.
