The Blaze Spikers extended its winning streak to a 15-0 run on April 6 at the Filoil Flying V Arena. With a thrice-to-beat advantage, Petron eliminated the Sta. Lucia Realtors from the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix Quarterfinals in just 66 minutes, taking all three sets with 25-17, 25-11, 25-19.

PSL fandom expects the Blaze Spikers to reclaim their crown easily. However, Coach Shaq delos Santos says it’s going to be a challenging road to tread and the team continues to undergo intensive physical training to improve their game further. Nonetheless, we can expect the team to intensify their play further and prepare mentally to win with their daily practices.

The team possesses more than just a spotless record. They have also broken records year on year and one would have to ponder just how else they can improve. With a can-do attitude that only aims to perform better each time, this is precisely what makes a championship team.

Volleyball analysts have already proclaimed the team “arguably the best volleyball club in the league.” @VolleyNationPH commends Petron for putting together a strong team early on sticking with all its members. “Before the quarterfinals of PSL, let’s commend Petron for sweeping the elimination round of the season. Let us not forget they were the first ones who unveiled their imports and yet it seemed other teams were not able to match them in the eliminations.”

Team Petron has been working harder during practices to fortify from within. Team captain, Katherine Bell, who scored 19 points in their winning game against SLR noted that local veteran, Rhea Dimaculangan, has helped the team stay focused. She credits her wisdom as a big factor in winning the games. Our imports may be threatened by the enlistment of more powerful new imports like MJ Perez and Milagros Collar, but our locals’ individual talent consistently provide them much needed support. We can expect our girls to react with even better dynamics for more powerful attacks and excellent sets. Instead of an easy and predictable feat, fans of the Blaze Spikers can expect an exciting road to the finals. It’s just a matter of days till they battle it out against the victor of the Cignal versus United Volleyball Club match for the Semifinals.
