PETRON TO FURTHER EXPAND CSR INITIATIVES IN PANDACAN Friday, April 24, 2009 |

Petron Corporation announced that it was set to expand its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs to meet the growing needs of the communities in Pandacan, Manila. The new CSR programs include the construction of a Petron Community Health Center, a Livelihood Skills and Training project and the rollout of Kontra-Kalat sa Barangay.
Petron, which operates an oil terminal in Pandacan, has been a long-time partner of nearby barangays in promoting a healthy and safe community. Current programs include medical missions, Hapag-asa feeding program for school children, Tulong Aral scholarships, Brigada Eskwela—a regular classroom repair project, fire drills and a safety awareness information campaign.
“After taking a community survey recently, we saw the need to expand and intensify our CSR initiatives in the area. Aside from the programs we have in place, we will be implementing additional projects to serve the growing needs of the Pandacan community,” Petron Foundation Director Malu G. Erni said.
On April 22, Archbishop of Manila His Eminence Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales, Manila City officials led by Mayor Alfredo Lim, Petron representatives led by President Eric O. Recto, and barangay officials witnessed the groundbreaking ceremonies of the new Petron Community Health Center located within the Petron Pandacan Terminal.
The Petron Community Health Center will augment the health care programs and services being delivered by barangay health centers. The health center also boasts of specialized health care services that includes a clinical laboratory, X-Ray and ultrasound machines. This is a joint effort between the Manila Health Department, Ospital ng Maynila and Petron. The center also represents the 50th health center in the City of Manila and is expected to operational in the 3rd quarter of 2009.
In cooperation with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Petron will conduct technical training to local communities, particularly the youth, to better equip them with skills for employment.
Another initiative is the Kontra Kalat sa Barangay—a solid waste management program with numerous benefits. Benefits include reduced waste by households, seminar/trainings for efficient waste segregation, additional income from recyclables and more importantly, cleaner and healthier surroundings.
“We are very excited to implement these programs and grateful for the close cooperation and support of our partners. We hope that this sets the stage for more cooperation between Petron and adjacent communities in Pandacan,” Erni concluded.
